Telescope Buyers Clinic – 2014

Telescope Buyers Clinic

Winston-Salem, N.C. – There comes a time when curiosity leads to a new hobby….like Astronomy! But where do you start? You want to see the rings of Saturn, the craters on the moon, galaxies, nebulae, and much, much more!

Scientific thought began with humankind’s first look to the skies. And that curiosity has never ended! That’s where the Forsyth Astronomical Society (FAS) can help any budding amateur astronomer….with knowledgeable advice about all the various kinds of telescopes to enjoying the hobby.

FAS will be holding a “Telescope Buyers Clinic” from Noon to 4:00PM on Saturday, September 27th at SciWorks in Winston-Salem. FAS Club members will be staffing a number of tables and providing information on:

 Binoculars for star gazing
 Telescopes for star gazing
 Star charts and Planispheres
 Astronomy Apps for smart phones and tablets
 Eyepieces and Filters for telescopes
 Advance topics including solar observing and astrophotography

A number of telescopes will be available at the event (although, due to the time of day, we won’t be doing any viewing of the night sky). Weather permitting; there may be telescopes outside for solar viewing during the program.

So, to learn about Amateur Astronomy and the RIGHT equipment to buy for your new hobby, attend the Forsyth Astronomical Society’s “Telescope Buyers Clinic” on September 27th at SciWorks, 400 W. Hanes Mill Road in Winston-Salem.

The FAS event is free to the public. Information will be available throughout the entire program – so you can spend as little or as much time as you would like browsing through the information and talking with FAS members. For more information please check the FAS website at www.fas37.org.

While you are at the program, you might also enjoy spending part of the day at the SciWorks Museum (normal admission fees apply). For more information, see the SciWorks website at www.sciworks.org.
