Most of the time, we observe it at night. The additional time is due to the Earth\u2019s (and Moon\u2019s) orbit around the Sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the Moon is directly in line with the Sun, the far side is illuminated and we have a new moon. At this time, the Moon is in the sky all day long, but it isn\u2019t visible. When the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, the near side is illuminated and we have a full moon. In this case the Moon is visible throughout the night, but not during the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the Moon\u2019s phase is either a waxing or waning gibbous, a large portion of the near side is illuminated, and it is visible during the day. This is when we see a \u201cdaytime Moon.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A waxing gibbous occurs just before a full moon and is visible in the afternoon to the east.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A waning gibbous occurs just after a full moon and is visible in the morning to the west.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group
