April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse

You might have seen it in the news. Well, two solar eclipses are coming up for the United States! These will be the last visible from the continental United States until August 23, 2044.

An annular solar eclipse occurred on October 14, 2023. The eclipse lasted from 11:52 am to 2:43 pm (peak at 1:16 pm) in Winston-Salem. Unfortunately, for most of us, it was cloudy.

A total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024. The path of totality will stretch from Texas through Illinois to the Northeast. For a map of the eclipse path, see here or below.

Winston-Salem will not be in the path of totality for the April 8, 2024 eclipse. However, we will see around 85% of the April eclipse. The eclipse will last from 1:56 pm to 4:27 pm, with a peak at 3:13 pm in Winston-Salem.
