Andrea Nichols will be briefly discussing lesser-known space race faces and places, such as the astronaut training at Morehead Planetarium and the women of the space race. While some of the female employees, such as Katherine Johnson, are more widely known thanks to the Hidden Figures (2016) movie — based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s nonfiction book — there were other women working at NASA and female astronauts, now popularly known as Mercury 13. Join us as we remind ourselves of some of the other people and places involved in the space race.
You don’t have to be a member to attend. If you’re curious and have an interest in space and astronomy, come on out!
The program starts at 7:30 pm. The Society’s business meeting will take place after the program. The meeting will also be available on WebEx for FAS members.
