FAS Takes Steps to Help Stem the Spread of Covid-19 Virus

The Forsyth Astronomical Society has been closely following the recent outbreaks of Covid-19 in NC to determine the actions the FAS should take concerning our public outreach and gatherings. With the recent declarations of state of emergency on the national and state level and with both federal and state level health officials suggesting cessation of close proximity large public gatherings. We have tentatively cancelled all current and future public events scheduled by the FAS through the end of April. This includes this evening’s(3/14) scheduled Stone Mountain Observation. Resumption of scheduled events will be subject to some sort of public “all-clear” announcement from the appropriate public health authorities. This period of cancellation could be extended beyond the end of April if those authorities suggest or require such a ban. There is also the possibility that this could include cancelling the April FAS meeting, we will determine that as the date approaches. We hope to see you all at an event when we can resume our schedule until then follow suggested protocols and be diligent about washing your hands, give each other plenty of space and keep looking up.
