March 2024 Meeting – Wednesday, March 13 (at the NEW Kaleideum downtown)

Please join us for the March meeting of the Forsyth Astronomical Society on March 13. The meeting will be held at the new Kaleideum at 120 West 3rd Street downtown in Winston-Salem, NC.

On March 13th at 7:30 pm – The long awaited ASTROPHYSICS 101 presentation facilitated by FAS members Steve Stultz & Tony Goebel. Just some of the topics will be: What is gravity? Does mass distort space time? Why are neutron stars made of ONLY neutrons? What bizarre physics creates such a star? Will HAWKINS RADIATION ultimately destroy black holes? What is the fate of an expanding universe? Before attending please review H-R diagrams for stellar evolution and photometric light curves. Question: What role do amateur astronomers play in contemporary research? SEE YOU THERE!

You don’t have to be a member to attend. If you’re curious and have an interest in astronomy and the universe, come on out! Of course, you can come just for the donuts.

The meeting starts at 7:30 pm in the Think Tank on the 2nd floor and will conclude with a short business meeting. The doors to the building will open at 7:00 pm and close shortly after the meeting starts at 7:30 pm. The doors will reman locked. Someone will be there to let you in.

Enter through the front door, go straight ahead to the stairs or elevator. Go to the 2nd floor. The Think Tank is in front of you and slightly to the right as you exit the stairs or elevator. Please DO NOT wander throughout the building – The exhibits are NOT open. When leaving, go out through the front door and make sure the door is closed tight behind you. Someone should be there to let you out.

Our understanding is that 3rd street in front of Kaleideum will be open and there should be street parking spaces there. There may also be a few street parking spaces on 3rd street going up toward Cherry street. Your best bet for parking might be the Liberty Plaza parking deck at the corner of Second street and Town Run lane, across from the Post Office. The cost is $2 per hour.
