56 years ago on July 20, 1969, the lunar module Eagle touched down on the surface of the Moon. A short time later astronaut Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon’s surface. He was soon followed by Buzz Aldrin. Michael Collins remained behind in the Columbia command module. This was Apollo 11, the culmination of NASA’s programs (Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo) to land humans on the Moon.
