Pilot Mountain Observation – October 15

–EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE AS SCHEDULED–

The weather forecast for Saturday at Pilot Mountain is for mostly clear skies. We will see you there!

The Stars will be out at Pilot Mountain

Forsyth Astronomical Society

Along with Kaleideum

Saturday, October 15 from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm

Pilot Mountain State Park

After a few years due to COVID and poor weather, the Forsyth Astronomical Society (FAS) will once again scale the heights of Pilot Mountain in search of dark skies.

This is one of the few opportunities to leave the city lights behind and see the stars, constellations, and a couple of planets without (too much) interference from light pollution. If conditions are favorable, the fall constellations, several deep-sky objects, and the planets Jupiter and Saturn will be visible.

The public is invited to attend this free event, which will take place in the summit parking lot of Pilot Mountain State Park. Parking at the summit is limited, so carpooling is recommended. As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please turn off your headlights and drive slowly with just your parking lights when you reach the summit parking lot.

Of course, we need a clear night. And it can be much colder at the top of Pilot Mountain, so dress accordingly.

So, check our website (http://www.fas37.org) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ForsythAstronomical/) before coming out to know if the event is taking place or canceled.
