Public Observation at Pilot Mountain (Friday, November 6)

On Friday, November 6, 2026, the Forsyth Astronomical Society and the rangers of Pilot Mountain State Park will host a free public astronomy observation on the summit of Pilot Mountain.

The observation will begin once it gets dark at 6:30 PM and conclude at 8:30 PM. Come up early to view some of the telescopes and enjoy the sunset at 5:20 PM.

For you more technical folks: Sunset: 5:20 PM | Twi: 5:46 PM | N Twi: 6:17 PM | A Twi: 6:47 PM.

This event is weather-dependent, and a weather update will be posted on our website (fas37.org) and on our Facebook page with the weather decision made the evening before the event.

Pilot Mountain observations are free and open to the public. The observing site is the summit parking lot. Parking at the summit is limited, so carpooling is recommended. As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please turn off your headlights and drive slowly with just your parking lights when you reach the summit parking lot. Dress warmly, because the summit of Pilot Mountain can be much colder and windier than the surrounding area.

Don’t worry, if you miss this one, we will be back to Pilot Mountain four more times before next summer.
