Public observation at Yadkin Memorial Park Lake Hampton (Sat, March 7)

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Forsyth Astronomical Society will host a free public astronomy observation at Yadkin Memorial Park Lake Hampton. The event will run from 7:15 PM to 10:00 PM, and perhaps longer depending on attendance and conditions. This event is weather-dependent. This post and the FAS Facebook page will be updated with the weather decision the evening before the event.

This event is free and open to the public. The observing site is in the lake parking lot, which is shown on the map below. As a courtesy to those present, if you arrive after dark, please turn off your headlights and drive slowly with just your parking lights when you reach the lake parking lot.

Attendees with telescopes may park in the reserved area at the end of the lake parking lot. Additional parking is available in the remainder of the lake parking lot. Attendees who do not have a camping reservation must leave when FAS leaves.

To preserve everyone’s night vision, please refrain from using flashlights or cell phones in the observation area. If you must use a light, red lights are preferred. Regardless of the color, shield the light with your hand, keep it pointed down, and turn it off when you reach the observation area.
