Public observations at Stone Mountain (2026-27)

The Forsyth Astronomical Society will once again host free public astronomy observations at Stone Mountain State Park in late 2026 and early 2027.

  • Saturday, November 14, 2026 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM.
  • Saturday, December 12, 2026 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM.
  • Saturday, January 30, 2027. 6:45 PM to 8:45 PM.
  • Saturday, February 27, 2027. 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM.

The events are free and open to the public. The observing site is in the field behind A Loop campsites 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37, which is shown on the map below. Reach the observing site field by walking through the grassy areas between campsites 33 and 34, or 36 and 37. Please be respectful and do not walk through occupied campsites.

These events are weather-dependent. Always check the FAS website and FAS Facebook page for updates with the final weather decision made the evening before each event.

No vehicles are allowed in the field. Attendees with telescopes may park in campsites 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37. Additional parking is available at the A Loop bathhouse, in unoccupied campsite driveways, or single-file along the access road, allowing room for vehicles to pass. Attendees who do not have a camping reservation must leave when FAS leaves.

To preserve everyone’s night vision, please refrain from using flashlights or cell phones in the observation area. If you must use a light, red lights are preferred. Regardless of the color, shield the light with your hand, keep it pointed down, and turn it off when you reach the observation area.

To those attending with telescopes, the campground is prone to heavy dew, so plan accordingly.
